アメリカ短期出張で現地 SIM カードをセットアップする方法です。自分の備忘録としてですが、検索しても有益な情報があまりなかったため、何かの役に立つかもしれないので書いておきます。

私は SIM カードは 20 ヵ国以上で購入・セットアップしていると思うけど、その中でも最も設定が難しいのはアメリカだと思います。日本は海外旅行者に大変というけど、アメリカもこの件ではたいがいです。

１．カード購入
量販店（CVS や BestBuy など）で未使用の SIM カードを購入、今回はこちらのカード（H2O Wireless）を買った。AT&T 系の MVNO だと思います。値段は 1 ドル程度で安い。

２．チャージ
プリペイド SIM カードを使えるようにするためには、お金をチャージする必要があります。H2O Wireless の本サイト からのクレジットカードでの直接チャージを試すと、アメリカ住所のクレジットカードが必要になるが、旅行者は持ってないので不可能（これを現地カードで決済してくれる人がいたらお願いして終了です。ただ旅行者でその場でセットアップしたい場合は難しいかも。）

外国クレジットカードでの支払いができないので、外部サイトで Refill のための PIN を購入してチャージする方法に変更する。こちらのページ から購入可能。このサイトでも海外住所のクレジットカード決済ができないんだけど、Paypal のオプションがあったので、それで支払いが可能でした。

３．Activate
H2O Wireless の本サイトから Activation Code と、外部サイトから購入した Refill PIN を入力して、SIM を Activate する。Activate に成功すると電話番号が手に入り、20 ドルまでのプランが選べた。1 ヵ月のプランで、Unlimited Talk、1 GB データが合計 20 ドルでした。

４．電話の設定
電話の自動設定が上手く行かず、4G を使うためには APN を自分で設定する必要があった。適当に検索して出てきたこちらの設定を使ったらできた。こちらについては自分の電話の問題なのかもしれないですが。

所要時間 30-45 分でした。網羅的に調べていないので、もっと良い方法があるかもしれません。試す場合は自己責任でお願いします。ちなみに大手キャリアの T-mobile の店舗でもプリペイド SIM カードは販売してるんだけど、値段が 2 倍くらいでした。何が良いのかまだわからないので、アメリカのプリペイド SIM のセットアップでもっと良い方法があれば教えて下さい。
