成田エクスプレスですが，原則は車内で特急券を買えないことになっているようです．この前のことなのですが，直前の用事の都合があり，フライトに間に合うギリギリの時間帯で成田空港に向かうことになりました．新宿駅に着いた段階で，みどりの窓口にチケットを買いに行って，乗車を一本遅らせる時間がなかったのです．

少し迷ったんですが，飛行機の搭乗に遅れるわけには行かないので，乗車するしかないと判断しました．ホームにあるインフォメーションの受付の方に「原則特急券を先に窓口で買うのは理解してるのだけど，今回は時間がなくやむを得ない．その場合乗車してから購入できるのか，車内で購入する場合，追加料金などはあるのか．」という質問をしたのですが「みどりの窓口へ行って下さい」という回答を頂きました．何とも要領を得ない返事に少し苛立って，「原則は理解してて，ルール外のことを駅員さんとしてすすめられないのもわかるのです．ただ今の自分に必要な情報なので，私がその行動を取った際にどうなるか教えて欲しい．」みたいなことを伝えたものの，結局「みどりの窓口へ行って下さい，としか言えません」という回答しか得られませんでした．私はこの手の対応にカチンとくるくらいには精神的に未熟ではあります．自分のスケジュールが時間的に無理だったことは棚にあげさせてもらい，腹の中では「そんな反応しかできないなら，あなたがそこにいる理由がないじゃないですか，そんなの仕事してないのと同じですよ」と思っていました．

とは言っても，そこで言い争う時間もありません．まあ仮に何らかの罰則があるにしてもチケットの３倍額くらいだろう（そしてそれなら飛行機チケットの変更代よりは安い）という推測の元に電車に乗りました．そして車内の車掌さんに同様の説明をしたら，あっけなく通常料金で指定席と特急券を購入することができて，拍子抜けしました．何故車内購入をあんなに奨励しないようにしてるんでしょう．いやもちろん，乗客みんなが前もってチケットを購入した方がオペレーションがスムーズなのはわかりますが，数人の例外がいるのはJRでも計算ずくではないのかな．

ところで自分が一番ひっかかったのは「みどりの窓口へ行っていたら，飛行機に乗れない」と説明したにも関わらず，駅員さんはそれしかすすめなかったことなんです．例えば私の祖母などは真面目な人だから，もし同様の状況で同様の説明をされたら，駅員さんに迷惑がかかるからという理由で，言われた通りにみどりの窓口へ行ってしまうんです．そして飛行機に乗れなくなってしまう．

私は全うな人間でありたいとは思うんだけど，一方で自分勝手に物事を判断することもありますし，「決まりはそれを少し破っても，それをどうするかという決まり（＝罰則）がある」という自分の判断で，柔軟に決まりに従うかどうか決めます．もちろん何でもかんでもやりたい放題するわけではなくて．普段は世の中に迷惑をかけないようにしているつもりです．ただ必要であれば，緊急性とルールの重要性を弾力的に判断して，自分の合理的判断でルールを破ったなら，それを守らないことの責任や罰則はきちんと受け入れるということです．でも，世の中にはそんなこともしないような，朴訥で善良で，周りに迷惑をかけちゃいけないと気遣いのできる人がたくさんいます（特に日本では多いように思います）．バカ正直と言われてしまいそうなくらい規範意識の高い人が少しずつ不便を受け入れるおかげで，日本社会は住みやすくなっているように思います．だから，ルールは，そういった全うな市民が住みやすくするためにこそ存在して欲しいと思いますし，普段全うな人がたまたま失敗して困ってる時くらい，少しだけ融通を利かせて助け舟を出せるような社会であって欲しいと願うのです．今回の僕のように小賢い判断をする連中ばかりが得をして，全うで真面目な人が馬鹿を見るなんてやるせなくないですか．

だからJRの駅員さん，僕のばあちゃんのような人が困ってて状況を説明してきたら「チケットは車内で買えるから今回はそのまま乗って下さい．次回はちゃんと前もって買って下さいね．」とでもマニュアルを破って柔軟に教えてあげて欲しい，そのように願ってやみません．
